SPARROW HOUSE CORE VALUES
In 1940, Domestic Worker Evelyn Sparrow purchased a home in what is now known as West Louisville’s California Neighborhood. Mrs. Sparrow passed this home on to her two daughters; Educator Jessie Goree and Community Leader and Activist Anna. J. Smith. Now more than 80 years later, Sparrow’s Great Granddaughter Markesha Smith-Bell is reclaiming the legacy of the home to benefit California’s current and future generations.

OUR MISSION
The Sparrow House, Inc is a collaborative workspace that unifies California residents, businesses, and community resources.
The Sparrow House provides space for Office space/meeting rentals, workshops and training, mental healthcare, networking, and more.
As a 3rd Generation Home Owner, it’s my responsibility to continue building the legacy that was passed on to me by my Grandmother and Great Grandmother. After my grandmother, Anna J. Smith, transitioned, I felt the need to give back to the California Neighborhood growing stronger in my heart. As a child, I benefited from California community resources and recognize the importance of working together. Let’s now work together to build on the dream and watch
our community take flight from
The Sparrow House.
